When Taylor Swift released 1989, you could hear a new sound for the wholesome singer/songwriter, one we were happy to see her make into her later career and mature into a well-rounded performer. Swift has dropped the whole “staring off into the audience in disbelief” to getting stuck above the audience during a show, but she’s also allowed her music to age along with her fans.

“You Oughta Know” was a song that many speculated who it was about. Eventually it was revealed that it was about Alanis’ break-up with “Out of Control” star Dave Coulier. Oh, haven’t heard of that show? He went on to star in “Full House”. Well, the song wasn’t completely about Dave, according to a 2014 interview.

The song was so full of angst, you couldn’t help but feel angry when the song came on, and a little relieved in a good workout kind of way when the song was over. It had such a great pull of emotions that it was a roller coaster over three-plus minutes, whether you were male or female. It can be heard at karaoke events still to this day.
So it’s no real surprise that Alanis would eventually team up with Taylor to sing this song as a duet. Now, before watching the video below, keep in mind that the lyrics to the song aren’t safe at work, but nothing too explicit. It is a definite change of what you would expect to hear from Taylor Swift, and with her maturing into a solid female artist, it wouldn’t be surprising to hear similar from her in the future.
Oh, and we wouldn’t not show you the video, that’s below:
